Paul’s story could have turned out very differently, as it can for any of us in any moment on any day. He could have used that moment as the evidence he needed to prove that the story about himself as ‘the failure’ was true, and then to use that evidence as a reason to bail on himself and his dreams. He could have made it mean everything, which would have left him with nothing.

Or at least no possibility for peace, freedom or change.

You are no different to Paul. Because you are a human being. And as a human being, you will get triggered and – for a while at least – there is a risk that you will be pulled back into your story. So when this happens, and you’re able to commit to choosing freedom over suffering, you’re making the first step towards change.

Do not make it mean everything. Keep moving forwards: one foot in front of the other, one step at a time. Your peace and happiness are not determined by what you do or what you achieve or where you go. Happiness is a habit. A habit of being at peace with ‘what is’ in the present moment.

Surrender the suffering and just keep walking.
